New Delhi, October 5, 2023 - In a significant move aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income households, the Union Cabinet has given the green light to an additional subsidy of Rs 100 on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This crucial decision elevates the total subsidy for Ujjwala beneficiaries to a substantial Rs 500 per cylinder, offering invaluable support to economically vulnerable families.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a flagship initiative dedicated to empowering women and enhancing the quality of life for countless households, has witnessed a commendable increase in the LPG cylinder subsidy. Formerly set at Rs 200, this subsidy has now been elevated to Rs 300. As a result, program beneficiaries will now be able to purchase an LPG cylinder for the reduced price of only Rs 600, significantly lower than the market rate.
This recent development is a further testament to the government's unwavering commitment to uplift disadvantaged segments of society, particularly women and economically vulnerable families. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which has already made remarkable strides in improving access to clean cooking fuel, is set to make an even more significant impact with this enhanced subsidy.
It is important to note that earlier this year, in August, the price of LPG cylinders designated for domestic use was substantially reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder for all users across the nation. However, Ujjwala beneficiaries received an even more substantial reduction of Rs 400 per cylinder during that period, reflecting the government's priority to provide substantial support to those in need.
This latest step reaffirms the government's commitment to promoting clean energy and women's empowerment through targeted social welfare programs. The increased LPG subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana not only ensures easier access to clean cooking fuel but also contributes to the economic well-being of countless households, enabling them to redirect their financial resources toward other essential needs.
As this enhanced subsidy begins to take effect, it is anticipated that many low-income households, especially those in rural areas, will experience a positive transformation in their daily lives, furthering the objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
