Zero Tolerance: Assam Authorities Crack Down on Corruption Within Police Ranks
Goalpara, Assam - 28 October, 2023: In a significant development, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Assam has apprehended Assistant Sub Inspector Ahmed Ali, who serves at Dhupdhara Police Station in Goalpara district. The arrest was made in connection with charges of bribery, marking a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within the police force.
Ali is alleged to have demanded a sum of Rs. 5,000 from a complainant, initially as a settlement for a family dispute. When the complainant refused to comply with the demand for such a substantial sum, Ali reportedly reduced the amount to Rs. 3,000. Faced with an unjust request, the complainant decided to take action and reported the incident to the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption.
In response to the complaint, authorities swiftly organized a trap operation on the evening of a recent Friday within the vicinity of Dhupdhara Police Station. During the operation, Ali was apprehended while accepting Rs. 2,500 as a part of the alleged bribe. This incident took place in front of a local shop near the police station and occurred at approximately 7:45 PM. The bribe money was subsequently recovered and seized with the presence of independent witnesses.
The Directorate has wasted no time in pursuing justice in this matter. A formal case has been registered against Ahmed Ali at the ACB Police Station on October 27, 2023. The case falls under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
