Historic Event at Bir Lachit Barphukan Park Commemorates Legendary Warrior
Guwahati, October 10, 2023: In a momentous ceremony, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, presided over the unveiling of the statue of the renowned Ahom General, Bir Lachit Barphukan, at the Bir Lachit Barphukan Park within the Narangi Military Station. This significant event paid homage to the illustrious General and showcased Assam's vibrant cultural heritage.
The occasion was marked by captivating performances that celebrated Assam's identity, including renditions of the state's anthem. However, the highlight of the day was a dramatic portrayal of the legendary General Bir Lachit Barphukan, brought to life with enthusiasm and finesse by the Assam State Cultural Department.
The unveiling of General Bir Lachit Barphukan's statue was a poignant reminder of the rich historical and cultural legacy of Assam. Attendees paid their respects to the iconic warrior, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to the Ahom Dynasty. The ceremony also served as a tribute to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation, as the 'Saheed Smarak' was unveiled in the park.
The event witnessed the presence of several esteemed dignitaries, including Lieutenant General RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, Major General PS Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area, and Major General RK Jha (Retd). Historians, Armed Forces personnel, and NCC cadets also graced the occasion, adding to the solemnity and significance of the ceremony.
