Guwahati, Assam - October 21, 2023: Badruddin Ajmal, the prominent leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and a well-known perfume baron, made a significant announcement on October 20, declaring that his party will not engage in alliances with either the Congress or the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
Ajmal expressed his party's determination to contest the elections independently, displaying confidence in winning three seats in the upcoming polls. He was candid in his assessment of the Congress, stating that the party would not secure a single seat, emphasizing that it no longer holds sway in Assam's political landscape. Nevertheless, he hinted at the possibility of "some adjustments" in the near future, given the presence of various other parties in the state.
"We are currently planning to contest the Lok Sabha elections on our own. However, there is a potential development on the horizon that might require us to collaborate with another party in the days to come. It's important to clarify that we have no intention of forming an alliance with Congress or BJP. Even if they express interest, we will not entertain such partnerships. The situation involves several other parties, and a development is unfolding. We will provide further details soon," Ajmal disclosed during a conversation with reporters.
He went on to reinforce his stance, saying, "An alliance with Congress is not feasible, and the same applies to BJP. Congress no longer holds any significant influence within Assam. It's improbable that Congress will secure a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections. This time, even securing a single seat would be a remarkable achievement."
Ajmal also shared an optimistic outlook for AIUDF's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "The AIUDF is poised to secure three seats with certainty in the 24th election. Furthermore, we are currently in discussions with a specific party regarding the possibility of cooperation for two additional seats," he mentioned, refraining from divulging the name of the potential partner.
As the political landscape in Assam continues to evolve, Badruddin Ajmal's declaration underscores the AIUDF's commitment to charting an independent course for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, promising an intriguing contest in the region's political arena.
