A Glimpse of Hope: Governor Uikey's Gesture of Solidarity with Bereaved Families
Imphal, Manipur - September 30, 2023: In a compassionate and decisive move, Governor Anusuiya Uikey of Manipur made a heartfelt visit to the grieving families of two missing students, Hijam Linthoingambi (17) and Phijam Hemanjit (20), on September 29. Her visit aimed to extend solace to the bereaved families and reaffirm the commitment to ensuring justice prevails in this distressing situation.

These two young lives gained widespread attention after their images circulated on social media platforms on September 25, raising concerns about their safety. Governor Anusuiya Uikey paid her respects at their homes in Imphal, where she conveyed her deep sorrow and condolences to the grieving parents. Touched by the resilience of the mothers, who had been fasting for several days, the Governor stood in solidarity with their anguish and offered them water.

During her visit, Governor Uikey recognized the sentiments of the people and assured the families that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry is already in progress. She made a resolute declaration that those responsible for this tragic situation would face the full weight of the law. Concerns surrounding the alleged use of excessive force by security personnel during recent student protests were also brought to the Governor's attention. In response, she expressed her profound concern for the injured students and their well-being.

Speaking to the media, Uikey issued an appeal to parents, urging them to counsel their children to engage in peaceful forms of protest and refrain from taking matters into their own hands. She emphasized the lasting consequences that injuries sustained during such demonstrations could have on the future prospects of students.

Continuing her efforts to address the aftermath of the protests, Governor Uikey later visited students who had suffered various degrees of injuries during the recent agitation. Accompanied by their parents at Shija Hospital in Langol, she provided financial assistance to aid in their recovery. Her visit provided much-needed reassurance to these young individuals and their families, promising the necessary medical support for a swift recovery.

In a separate development, Km. Ak. Mirabai Devi, an Ex-Minister, and eight members of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) joined by relatives, met with Governor Uikey at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The delegation presented a memorandum outlining their concerns regarding the missing students and urged the Governor to expedite efforts to locate the bodies and bring the culprits to justice. Concerns about the excessive use of force by security personnel during student protests were also raised, to which Governor Uikey reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring the ongoing CBI investigation proceeds swiftly and transparently.
