Guwahati, September 11, 2023: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a significant address during the Autumn Session of the State Legislative Assembly today, shedding light on the state's power tariff, load shedding situation, and future prospects.
In his address, CM Sarma proudly pointed out that Assam boasts lower power tariffs in comparison to other states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. He emphasized the state's commitment to providing affordable electricity to its residents.

I am pleased to inform you that for the past two days, there has been no load shedding in the state." Elaborating on the state's current power generation capacity, CM Sarma revealed that Assam generates a modest 400 MW of power at a cost of Rs 9 per unit. Additionally, CM Sarma applauded the successful implementation of smart meters across households in Assam. "The introduction of smart meters has led to a remarkable 60 percent reduction in power consumption across households," he proudly stated. "This is a positive sign, indicating that people are now more conscientious about their power usage."
