State DGP Leads High-Level Security Meeting to Tackle Escalating Lawlessness by ULFA
Crucial Meeting Convenes to Address Surge in Extortion Activities by ULFA in Upper Assam Districts.

Guwahati, August 10, 2023: In response to the recent increase in illegal activities carried out by a group known as the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), a significant meeting was organized by the State Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh. This meeting, held on Wednesday, gathered together eight Superintendents of Police (SPs) who are responsible for maintaining law and order in the Upper Assam districts. DGP GP Singh, along with officials from Assam Rifles, CRPF, and the Army, stressed the importance of urgently addressing the rising lawlessness.

The areas that are being closely observed are Golaghat, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, and Charaideo. During the meeting, the DGP extensively reviewed the current situation of law and order in these districts. Of note is the recent series of demands for money by ULFA from local businesspeople and tea estates, causing worry. It's been observed that ULFA tends to become more active in the time leading up to Independence Day and Republic Day.

With Independence Day approaching, the DGP emphasized the need for increased awareness and alertness. He called for stronger efforts against individuals involved in unlawful activities and highlighted the significance of safeguarding vulnerable targets like oil pipelines and important facilities. In recent incidents, ULFA members who were working with the group to demand money were injured by gunshots. The DGP stated that these extortions were being conducted with the assistance of former ULFA members who had surrendered and individuals who support the group openly.

Reacting to the situation, the leader of ULFA, Paresh Baruah, cautioned the DGP against unfairly targeting the youth of the state. Nonetheless, the DGP remained steadfast in his commitment to maintaining law and order. He emphasized that no compromises would be made when it comes to ensuring the safety and security of the state's residents. As law enforcement agencies prepare to counteract ULFA's extortion tactics and keep the Upper Assam districts safe, the message from this high-level security meeting is crystal clear: every effort will be taken to prevent any disruptions to peace and stability.
