Mizoram's MNF Joins Forces in No-Confidence Motion Against BJP at the Centre
Mizoram’s Ruling MNF Supports No-Confidence Motion Against BJP-Led Government: A Significant Move within NDA.

Guwahati, August 10, 2023: In a move that has sent ripples through the political landscape, the Mizo National Front (MNF), a prominent constituent of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and a valued ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has taken a noteworthy stance. The party has announced its decision to throw its weight behind the no-confidence motion that has been tabled by the opposition against the current BJP-led government at the Centre. This pivotal development was unveiled by C Lalrosanga, the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament representing the MNF, during a candid conversation with PTI.

The decision of the MNF to back the no-confidence motion carries more weight than mere political maneuvering. It stems from a genuine concern over the handling of a pressing issue: the ethnic violence situation in Manipur. This concern, as highlighted by Lalrosanga, transcends party lines and political allegiances. Rather, it reflects the party's deep-seated dissatisfaction with the overall governance and crisis management of the current administration.

Lalrosanga's stand is not a solitary one; it is a reflection of the collective sentiment within the MNF leadership. The party, especially the Zo ethnic community within it, has been deeply affected by the recent turmoil in Manipur. Discussions within the party, led by its president Zoramthanga, who also holds the position of Chief Minister of Mizoram, culminated in the decision to extend support to the no-confidence motion.

Being a key player in the North East within the larger framework of the NDA, the MNF's decision reverberates beyond regional boundaries. Its endorsement of the no-confidence motion assumes significance in the face of the BJP-led NDA's considerable majority in the Lok Sabha. This move also has a parallel voice in the Rajya Sabha, where MNF's K Vanlalvena has been vocal about the issues plaguing Manipur. He has expressed his commitment to continue voicing these concerns within the Parliament.

The stage is now set for a critical juncture in Indian politics. The Lok Sabha's voting on the motion is poised to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the concerns raised by the opposition. The outcome of this vote, within the context of the NDA's prevailing majority, will determine the fate of the no-confidence motion put forth by Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress MP representing the united opposition. For Prime Minister Modi, this marks the second instance of facing a no-confidence motion during his tenure.

As the political landscape evolves, the ramifications of this decision are expected to be felt across the spectrum of Indian governance and coalition dynamics.
