Guwahati, Assam: A visionary endeavor to procure paddy and mustard seeds directly from farmers is yielding abundant rewards in Assam. Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a recent review, expressed satisfaction with the progress of this groundbreaking initiative, which is supporting the hardworking Annadatas (farmers) of Assam.

Paddy Procurement Triumph:

The statistics speak volumes about the success of this initiative. A total of 3,213 farmers applied to participate, with 2,573 successfully registering. The total paddy procured, encompassing both the 1st and 2nd crops, stands at an impressive 5,96,226 metric tons as of August 26, 2023.

Furthermore, Assam's commitment to achieving specific targets is evident in the category-wise procurement levels:

Target Above 50,000 MT: Darrang District leads the way with an outstanding achievement rate of 90%.
Target Between 20,000 to 50,000 MT: Udalguri District surpasses expectations with an exceptional achievement rate of 147%.
 Target Below 20,000 MT: Kamrup (Metro) follows closely with a remarkable achievement rate of 114%, accompanied by South Salmara at 108% and Chirang at 91%.

Mustard Seeds Procurement Success:

The procurement of mustard seeds, another vital component of Assam's agricultural landscape, is also progressing remarkably well. As of August 26, 2,036 metric tons of mustard seeds have been successfully procured.

Notably, Dhubri District emerges as the star performer in mustard seed procurement, securing a significant 428 metric tons. This accomplishment underscores the dedication and resilience of farmers in this region.

The direct procurement drive has not only ensured fair compensation for the hard work of farmers but has also strengthened Assam's agricultural backbone. It has fostered a sense of partnership between the government and the agricultural community, emphasizing the significance of supporting those who feed the nation.
