Supreme Court's Intervention Resolves Wrestling Federation of India Election Dispute
Supreme Court Steps in to Resolve Wrestling Federation of India Election Dispute.
Guwahati, July 18, 2023: In a significant development, the Supreme Court has intervened in the ongoing matter concerning the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). On Tuesday, the apex court took action by staying the order issued by the Gauhati High Court, which had put the WFI elections on hold.

The bench, consisting of Justices Aniruddha Bose and S V Bhatti, has sent notices to various parties involved, including the Union Sports Ministry, Wrestling Federation of India, and Assam Wrestling Association, following a plea that challenges the Gauhati High Court's ruling from June 25.

The petitioner, Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, argued before the bench that a third party had suddenly appeared before the high court on Sunday, resulting in the postponement of the WFI elections. This unexpected delay has caused disruptions in the election process for the Wrestling Federation.

Recognizing the urgency of the matter, the Supreme Court promptly issued notices and put a hold on the high court's order. The Gauhati High Court had previously scheduled July 28 for the next hearing on the petition filed by the Assam Wrestling Association, which sought the right to participate in the WFI election process.

Originally, the Wrestling Federation of India was planning to conduct its elections on July 11. However, the intervention by the Gauhati High Court halted the process, leading the WFI and other concerned parties to seek resolution from the Supreme Court.

This intervention by the Supreme Court aims to ensure a fair and smooth election process for the Wrestling Federation of India, providing hope for a swift resolution to the dispute. As the matter unfolds, all parties involved await further instructions and decisions from the apex court to bring clarity and transparency to the electoral process of the WFI.
