Shillong Raids Yield Results: 15 Illegal Sex Workers Brought to Justice
East Khasi Hills Police & Meghashakti Crack Down: 15 Illegal Sex Workers Apprehended in Shillong.
Guwahati, July 18, 2023: The East Khasi Hills District Police, in partnership with Meghashakti (Women Police Commandos), conducted successful raids and increased patrolling in the vicinity of Khyndailad, Shillong, leading to the apprehension of 15 illegal sex workers.

To ensure the safety of the public and maintain law and order in Shillong, the authorities have heightened foot patrols in the Khyndailad area, closely monitoring the activities of sex workers engaged in soliciting customers. Those arrested are now facing charges under the applicable sections of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.

The primary objective of these measures is to crack down on illegal activities and safeguard the well-being of Shillong's residents.

In recent raids across various areas such as Motphran, Paltan Bazar, Mawblei, Nongrim Hills, Laitumkhrah Bazar, Mawlonghat, Urkaliar, Upper Shillong, Polo, Mawbah, Jhalupara, and Upper Mawprem, the police successfully seized 112 liters of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 740 liters of illicit liquor over the weekend.

In addition, the Shillong Traffic Police have been diligently carrying out routine day and night vehicle checks at different locations to enforce traffic rules and regulations. Offenses like drunken driving, riding without a helmet, modified silencers, and tinted glasses are being strictly monitored under the Motor Vehicles Act. Notably, in the past week, the police have seized 277 vehicles, and a total of Rs 2,36,500 has been collected in fines from violators.

These combined efforts by the East Khasi Hills District Police and other law enforcement agencies demonstrate their commitment to ensuring a safe and lawful environment for the citizens of Shillong. The authorities continue to work tirelessly to maintain order and uphold the law, emphasizing the importance of public safety as their top priority.
