Heartbreaking Story of Paralyzed MLA Emerges Amid Manipur Violence
Paralyzed by Violence: MLA Vungzagin Valte's Struggle for Justice Continues in Manipur
In the midst of the turmoil in Manipur, a tragic tale unfolds about an MLA who has been left paralyzed after enduring a series of brutal attacks during the ongoing violence in the state. The MLA in question is Vungzagin Valte, a three-time representative of the Thanlon Constituency in the Pherzawl district, affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The 61-year-old MLA fell victim to the violence that erupted in Manipur, sustaining severe injuries when he was attacked by protesters back in May, during the early stages of the unrest. Belonging to the Kuki Tribe, Valte held a significant position within the BJP and maintained a close relationship with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

Reports suggest that Valte not only faced physical assault but was also subjected to electric shocks, an alarming revelation brought forward by his family and reported by various media organizations.

After three long months of hospitalization, Valte has now been discharged, but the injuries have left him paralyzed, dramatically altering the course of his life and career. Recently, senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai from 'India Today' met Valte, capturing the heartbreaking condition of the MLA.

"Today, he was finally able to speak a little and even give a bit of a smile. No one has been arrested yet. Imagine if this happened to an MLA who was an adviser to CM on tribal affairs, what would happen to ordinary Manipuris," Rajdeep shared in a tweet, shedding light on the prevailing lack of justice for the victim.

During the violent incident that left Valte injured, his driver tragically lost his life, making the situation even more distressing. Valte had to be airlifted to seek urgent medical care and attention.

The situation in Manipur remains severe, with the absence of peace and stability casting a shadow over the state. As authorities continue to grapple with the ongoing crisis, the plight of Vungzagin Valte serves as a stark reminder of the need for empathy, accountability, and swift action in addressing the violence and safeguarding the well-being of citizens affected by the unrest.

Prominent journalist Rajdeep Sardesai recently met Mrs. Valte, who tearfully shared her husband's story of dedication and service. Mr. Valte had never taken a day off in his entire career at SBI, with an unyielding commitment to his work and an unparalleled work ethic. However, the assault has left him bedridden, with his family left grappling with the trauma of the incident.

Despite his significant contributions to society and being a thrice-elected MLA from the ruling BJP party (once on a Congress ticket and twice on BJP's ticket), Mr. Valte has received limited support from fellow lawmakers and leaders. The Valte family expressed disappointment as only a few ministers, MLAs, and MPs visited them during this trying time.

The incident took place in Imphal, but it appears to have slipped under the radar in Parliament, with most MPs unaware of Mr. Valte's tragic story. This lack of attention and action on the part of lawmakers has further exacerbated the family's sense of isolation and neglect.

Adding to their anguish, the culprits behind the assault have not been arrested yet, raising questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The Valte family's emotional plea highlights a concerning lack of empathy and responsibility in society. As a dedicated public servant and elected representative, Mr. Valte deserved more support and attention during his time of need.

Rajdeep Sardesai's tweet has brought the incident into the public eye, urging citizens and authorities to reflect on the values of compassion and accountability that should guide us all. It is essential for society and its leaders to step up and ensure justice for Mr. Valte and his family and take necessary measures to prevent such acts of violence in the future.
