Agartala, July 18, 2023: The Tripura Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) marked the joyous occasion of its 42nd Foundation Day with great enthusiasm. NABARD, established on July 12, 1982, holds a crucial role as the apex financial institution dedicated to promoting agricultural and rural development by facilitating credit flow and implementing supportive initiatives.

The commemoration event witnessed the gracious presence of esteemed guests, including MLA Jitendra Majumder; CEO of TRLM, Prasada Rao Vaddarapu; GM/OIC of NABARD Tripura Regional Office, Loken Das; DGM of NABARD, Diganta Das; Principal of the College of Agriculture, Prof. T. K. Maity; Chairman of the TSCB, Kamal Kanti Sen; Chairman of TGB, Satyendra Singh; and Deputy Dean of the College of Fisheries, Prof. Arunbhai Patel.

The celebration began with a warm welcome extended by Diganta Das, DGM NABARD, as he greeted the dignitaries and participants present.

During his address, Loken Das, GM/OIC, shed light on NABARD's initiatives and specific interventions in Tripura aimed at fostering rural prosperity. In the financial year 2022-23, NABARD sanctioned projects worth Rs. 496 crore for rural infrastructure development under the Government of Tripura. Furthermore, a total of Rs. 500 crore was disbursed to initiate new projects and complete ongoing ones. In support of the agriculture and rural sectors, the banks also received a refinance of Rs. 525 crore during the same year. Das also emphasized various development initiatives, such as promoting kharif onion and baby corn cultivation, sanctioning an Off Farm Producer Organisation, initiating a Tribal Development Project, and supporting handloom and handicrafts development in Tripura.

Prof. T.K. Maity, Principal of the College of Agriculture, Tripura, highlighted the significance of millets and their potential for cultivation in the region, expressing gratitude for the collaboration and support received from NABARD.

Congratulating NABARD on its foundation day, Prasada Rao Vaddarapu, CEO of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, stressed the importance of further collaboration with NABARD to ensure rural prosperity.

MLA Jitendra Majumder also appreciated NABARD's efforts in facilitating smooth credit flow to the agriculture and rural sectors, reminiscing about his own journey as a member of the Farmers’ Club promoted under NABARD’s Farmers’ Club programme.

The program also witnessed the distribution of sanction letters for various projects to select SHGs/NGOs. Additionally, the best performing branches of TGB & TSCB were honored with tokens of appreciation. To add to the vibrancy of the event, an exhibition showcasing handloom & handicraft products, organized by various SHG groups of Tripura, was also held.

The commemoration of NABARD's 42nd Foundation Day stands as a testament to the institution's unwavering commitment to rural development and its relentless efforts to foster growth and prosperity in the agriculture sector of Tripura.
