Crackdown on Unauthorized Immigrants: Manipur Initiates Biometric Capture Drive
Imphal, July 29, 2023: Following the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the Manipur government has relaunched its campaign for biometric capture of all illegal Myanmar immigrants within the state. The initiative, set to be completed by September 2023, aims to address the issue of unauthorized immigrants residing in Manipur.

In accordance with the orders, a team of officials from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), deputed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, provided training and assistance to state government officers at the Foreigners' Detention Centre in Sajiwa, Imphal East District, to capture the biometric data of illegal immigrants.

The biometric capture campaign will be conducted across all districts of Manipur to ensure comprehensive data collection of all unauthorized Myanmar immigrants. The government is committed to completing the process within the specified timeframe to uphold the sovereignty and security of the state.

The initiative comes as part of the government's efforts to address the challenge posed by illegal immigrants and to ensure strict compliance with the country's immigration laws.
