Illegal Entry of 718 Myanmar Refugees Sparks Concerns in Manipur
Manipur MLA Alerts Authorities of Fresh Influx of 718 Myanmar Nationals in Chandel District
Imphal, Manipur: The northeastern state of Manipur has been grappling with a significant issue of illegal influx as it reported the arrival of 718 Myanmar nationals on July 23 in Chandel District. The alarming situation came to light after Manipur MLA, Rajkumar Imo Singh, raised concerns over the rising number of illegal immigrants entering the state.

According to reports, the refugees crossed the Indo-Myanmar border (IMB) and entered the general area of New Lajang (Latitude-23°51'11" and Longitude- 94°09′15″) due to ongoing clashes at Khampat, opposite BP 58, in Myanmar. This influx has caused apprehension among the local authorities, considering the implications it may have on the region's law and order situation.

MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh took to Twitter to highlight the issue and urged the Central Government to take necessary action to prevent any further illegal entries into the state. He emphasized the need for stricter border control measures to safeguard the indigenous communities from the influx of illegal migrants.

The State Government has sought a detailed report from the Assam Rifles Authority, the Border Guarding Force, to understand the reasons behind the entry of these 718 Myanmar nationals without proper travel documents. The situation is being treated with utmost sensitivity due to its potential international ramifications.

In the past, Manipur's State Government had instructed the Assam Rifles to take stringent action against any Myanmar national attempting to enter Manipur without valid visas or travel documents, in compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs' directives.

The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Chandel District have been instructed to oversee the implementation of immediate deportation measures and maintain biometrics and photographs of all such individuals.

Given the sensitive nature of the issue, the State Government remains committed to taking swift action to address the situation and ensure the safety and security of its citizens. The timely detection and reporting of this influx by MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh have prompted authorities to address the matter promptly and effectively.
The Manipur Government is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify the reasons and circumstances behind the illegal entry and prevent similar incidents in the future. The ongoing clashes at the border and the subsequent influx have necessitated enhanced border security and stricter monitoring to safeguard the territorial integrity and peace of the state.
As authorities continue to investigate the situation, further updates on the matter are anticipated in the coming days. The Manipur Government's efforts to curb illegal influx and protect its indigenous communities remain a top priority as they work in tandem with central authorities to ensure border security and effective law enforcement in the region.
