Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Upcoming Visit to Assam and Tripura to Honor Outstanding CBIC Officers.
In an important development, Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, is scheduled to undertake a two-day visit to Assam and Tripura from 21st to 22nd July, 2023. During her visit to Guwahati, she will preside over the prestigious Investiture Ceremony to bestow the Presidential Award for ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’ upon the officers and staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

The significant ceremony will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati on 21st July, 2023, commencing from 9:00 AM. The Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificates was initially announced on the occasion of Republic Day earlier in the year, making this event even more special.

A total of 29 exceptional officers and staff members of CBIC will be honored with the prestigious Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificate. These individuals have been chosen for their outstanding performance and remarkable contributions in various fields of service. Their commendable work encompasses a wide range of areas, such as preventing smuggling, detecting tax evasion, combatting trade-based money laundering, and handling foreign exchange violations. Furthermore, they have made significant contributions to tax policy formulation, revenue mobilization, automation of business processes, and capacity building and training.

The ceremony will be graced by the presence of Finance Minister Sitharaman, and the Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, who will be attending as the Guest of Honour. Also in attendance will be Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Revenue Secretary, and Vivek Johri, Special Secretary to the Government of India & Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), along with esteemed Members of CBIC and other senior officers of the Department.

Subsequently, the dignitaries will proceed to Tripura, where they will participate in the Inauguration Function of the GST Bhawan in Agartala. On the second day of the visit, the Finance Minister will also visit the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Srimantpur, Tripura, reaffirming the government's unwavering commitment to the region's overall development and growth.

This visit holds immense significance as it not only recognizes the exemplary efforts of CBIC officers and staff but also showcases the government's dedication to bolstering the economic progress of the Northeastern states. The Finance Minister's presence during the ceremony and subsequent engagements underscores the government's determination to foster efficiency, transparency, and excellence in financial and customs-related matters.
