Dengue Outbreak in Diphu, Assam: Health Authorities Sound the Alarm
Tragic Loss in Diphu as Dengue Claims a Life: Health Department Takes Charge
ASSAM July 18, 2023: Health officials in Diphu, Karbi Anglong district, Assam, are deeply concerned about the increasing number of dengue cases in the region. As of now, there have been a total of 569 confirmed cases of dengue since the beginning of this year.

Tragically, one person, named Rohila Terongpi, lost their life to dengue two weeks ago, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. To address this alarming issue, the Health Department is taking immediate action to raise public awareness and effectively combat the spread of the disease.

In collaboration with the District Administration and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, a bike rally was organized on Tuesday to educate the local community about dengue. The rally aimed to cover all 14 municipal wards in Diphu, with special attention given to the severely affected wards, particularly wards no. 1, 4, and 9. Among these, Ward no. 4 reported the highest number of cases, with a staggering 119 confirmed dengue cases.

Dr. Borsing Ingti, Joint Secretary of the Health Department, stressed the importance of this awareness campaign and urged the public to actively participate in curbing the surge of dengue cases. The health department has already taken various measures, including fogging and distributing medicated mosquito nets, to effectively tackle the outbreak. Since January, they have conducted a total of 1,885 tests, out of which 569 were positive for dengue. This data underscores the urgency of maintaining clean surroundings and adopting preventive measures to halt the disease's spread.

In response to the situation, the District Administration has issued a stern warning to residents, stating that failing to keep their surroundings clean could lead to penalties. Local authorities are urging the public to take an active role in the fight against dengue to safeguard the health and well-being of the community.
