Election Commission Holds Historic Public Hearings in Guwahati on Assam's Delimitation Proposal.
Guwahati, July 21, 2023: The Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted a significant event in Guwahati, where public hearings were held to discuss the draft delimitation proposal for Assam. This proposal aims to redefine the boundaries of constituencies in the state, and representatives from various political parties actively participated, making it a platform for constructive engagement.

The Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Shri Anup Chandra Pandey and Shri Arun Goel, engaged with both national and state-level political parties. Notable participants included the Aam Aadmi Party, Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist), and Bhartiya Janata Party. State parties like the All India United Democratic Front, Asom Gana Parishad, United Peoples Party Liberal, and Bodoland People’s Front also contributed their valuable feedback and suggestions on the proposed delimitation plan.

An essential aspect of these discussions was the involvement of the United Opposition Forum Assam, which represents a coalition of various parties, including Assam Pradesh Congress, Assam Jatiya Parishad, CPM, Raijor Dal, CPI, Jatiya Dal Assam, NCP, RJD, Janata Dal (U), TMC, CPI(ML), and other Registered Unrecognized Political Parties (RUPPs).

Over the course of the second day of public hearings, the Commission diligently listened to more than 645 representations from 13 districts, including Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Karimganj, Darrang, Hailakandi, Cachar, South Salmara, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Dhubri.
