Assam Rifles and Jirighat Police Join Forces to Combat Drug Trafficking, Seize 88.05g of Heroin

Joint Operation by Assam Rifles and Jirighat Police Leads to Major Heroin Bust in Assam.
Guwahati, July 17, 2023: A successful joint operation between the Radhanagar Battalion of Assam Rifles and Jirighat Police Station in Cachar District, Assam, resulted in the arrest of an individual caught with a significant amount of heroin weighing 88.05 grams on Sunday.

Acting on reliable information about drug sales, the Radhanagar Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Jirighat Police Station worked together seamlessly to carry out a collaborative mission. This operation led to the apprehension of an individual and the seizure of 88.05 grams of heroin, which is valued at around Rs 35 lakhs. The incident took place in the general vicinity of Hmarkhawlien, Cachar District, Assam.

Following the operation, the suspect and the confiscated contraband were handed over to the custody of the Jirighat Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Just a day before this incident, the Assam Rifles made another significant discovery in Cachar District. They intercepted a vehicle that was transporting 400 gelatine sticks and 400 detonators, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old individual named Prosonjit Baishnab. It is believed that the explosives were intended for delivery to Manipur.

As the "Sentinels of Northeast," the Assam Rifles have been at the forefront of the fight against Narco-terrorism, which continues to fuel insurgency in the region.
