State Universities to Embrace NEP 2020 Guidelines, Advanced Infrastructure, and Enhanced Collaboration
Assam: In a significant move towards establishing Assam as an educational hub of Eastern India, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to upgrade seven prominent colleges in the state to university status. This transformative step marks a significant milestone in the region's higher education landscape, as the state aims to cultivate ten new universities since 2021.
The colleges set to undergo the prestigious upgrade include Sibsagar College (Autonomous) in Sivasagar, Gurucharan College in Silchar, Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous) in Jorhat, Kokrajhar Govt College in Kokrajhar, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) in Lakhimpur, Nowgong College (Autonomous) in Nagaon, and Bongaigaon College in Bongaigaon.
These colleges-turned-universities will boast salient features and benefits aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines, ensuring the adoption of the latest pedagogy and teaching practices. With improved infrastructure, these universities will have the capacity to accommodate increased student intake and offer a multidisciplinary approach to education.

The upgraded universities will facilitate increased postgraduate (PG) seats, nurturing synergy between undergraduate (UG) and PG courses.
