Assam CM Exposes Congress's Hypocrisy on Manipur Incidents
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Exposes Congress's Double Standards on Manipur Incidents
In the midst of the ongoing Kuki and Meitei clash in Manipur, the Congress party has been making considerable noise. However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to highlight the party's sudden interest in Manipur, urging everyone to remember the response of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during similar crises in the state.

Sarma pointed out the alarming duplicity of the Congress party, shedding light on Manipur's troubled past during the UPA's tenure. Between 2010 and 2017, when the Congress ruled the state, Manipur experienced frequent blockades ranging from 30 days to an astounding 139 days each year. These blockades led to petrol and LPG prices soaring up to ₹240 and ₹1,900 a litre, resulting in a severe humanitarian crisis.

One of the darkest periods was in 2011 when Manipur endured a blockade lasting more than 120 days. However, during this crisis, the then Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson remained silent for 123 days, while the state was engulfed in turmoil. Instead, their focus seemed to be on assisting private companies, leaving the suffering of Manipur's people unaddressed.

Veteran journalist Rahul Pandita has shed light on the former PM's silence during that turbulent time, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency.

Under the Congress rule from 2004 to 2014, Manipur witnessed the loss of over 991 civilians and security personnel due to multi-ethnic conflicts. However, since May 2014, the tragic statistics have reduced significantly by 80%. This positive change reflects the healing of Manipur's social fabric, gradually taking place over the last few years.

Sarma emphasized that the pain arising from the ethnic conflicts in Manipur has deep roots in the faulty policies of Congress governments during the formative years of the state. Rectifying the fault-lines created by decades of misgovernance is an ongoing process that requires time and consistent efforts.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister expressed his belief that under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the process of resolving these decades-old ethnic conflicts will be completed in its entirety. It is a testament to the government's commitment to bringing lasting peace, stability, and prosperity to Manipur.
