Government Initiates Game-Changing Move: CPSUs to Develop Hydropower in Arunachal Pradesh.
20 July 2023: A significant breakthrough has occurred in the hydropower sector of Arunachal Pradesh, as the state government takes a decisive step to address previous challenges in large hydropower projects. By identifying four central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) to take over these projects, which had faced unsatisfactory progress under private developers, the government aims to ensure their successful development.Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein disclosed this strategic move, which involves entrusting the projects to NEEPCO Ltd, NHPC Ltd, SJVN Ltd, and THDC India Ltd – renowned CPSUs with expertise in the hydropower sector. The transfer process has been thoughtfully planned in consultation with various stakeholders, including the Government of India (GOI), and will be officially established through the signing of memorandum of agreements (MoAs) between the Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) and the CPSUs.
To expedite the smooth transition, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Dr. Hari Krishna Paliwal, Advisor to GoAP, recently met with Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh. The meeting aimed to discuss the progress made in this transformative initiative. Impressed by GoAP's efforts, the Power Minister assured a personal visit next month to witness the formal transfer of projects through the signing of MoAs.
Raj Kumar Singh recognized the immense potential of these projects to positively impact the economic well-being of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He acknowledged the significant role they will play in the state's overall development. The Power Minister promptly addressed relevant concerns raised during the meeting, further strengthening the partnership between the GOI and the Arunachal Pradesh government in their shared goal of hydropower development in the region.
