Sources revealed that Nalbari Superintendent of Police, Sudhakar Singh, issued the transfer order.
The 48 police officials, who had been stationed at various police stations including Nalbari, Ghograpar, Belsor, Tihu, Mukalmua, Kamarkuchi, and Daulasal for over four years, have been reassigned to different locations.
The reshuffle comes in the wake of a disturbing incident where two constables from Tihu Police Station physically attacked a truck driver on National Highway No. 31, leaving him seriously injured on the roadside.
According to allegations, the accused constables not only assaulted the driver but also robbed him of his money, rendering the victim unable to stand without assistance.
In response to the incident, locals and other truck drivers gathered at the scene and staged a protest, demanding justice for the victim and condemning the actions of the involved constables.
Later in the day, the accused constables, identified as Apurba Patgiri and Amit Hajong, were placed under reserve closed status.
