Assam's Rupohihat: Missing Youth Found Dead, Tension Mounts
NAGAON: The situation became tense in Rupohihat, a place in Assam's Nagaon district, after a young person who had gone missing was found dead on Wednesday.
According to sources, a young man named Biswajit Mandal from Rupohihat had gone fishing at Haribhanga Beel three days ago and did not return home.
After extensive search operations by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, Biswajit's body was discovered covered near Haribhanga Beel.
Upon finding the body, local residents accused the person in charge of the Beel (known as the lessee or Mahaldar) of murdering the young man. In protest, the locals surrounded the police vehicle and demanded an investigation into the incident. The locals suspected foul play because there were visible injuries on Biswajit's head, leading them to believe he was killed.
It is reported that the locals were not allowed to file a complaint about the incident.
The police have detained two individuals in connection with the incident. The lessee, Sanjay Das, and another person named Bonomali Deka, have been arrested.
