Kamrup District, Assam: A goods train carrying coal derailed in Kamrup district today, causing a disruption in rail services. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident, according to railway officials.
The derailment occurred near Boko, specifically at Singra, when around 20 wagons of the coal-laden train went off the tracks. The derailed wagons were positioned in the center of the train, which consisted of a total of 60 wagons, as stated by an official.
The train was en route to Tetelia in Kamrup Metropolitan district from Asansol, West Bengal, carrying a load of coal.
The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, prompting the presence of senior railway and police officials at the site to investigate further.
Due to the derailment, four passenger trains in the Rangia-Lumding section had to be cancelled. However, express trains were not significantly impacted as rail traffic in the section mainly comprises goods trains, the official clarified.
Restoration work has already commenced, and efforts are underway to resume train operations promptly, the official confirmed.
