According to reports, approximately 10 vehicles and two residential houses fell victim to the alleged vandalism. Among the damaged vehicles parked in the area were a Mahindra Scorpio, Gypsy, Tata Magic, Hyundai i-10, and Suzuki Alto car. The RAF personnel were reportedly en route from Singjamei to Moirangkhom around 2:20 am on Tuesday to assess the situation in the area. Earlier, a group of protesters had gathered in the vicinity to block the movement of security force convoys, suspecting that armed miscreants were being transported.
In an attempt to disperse the crowd gathered along the National Highway-2 Imphal-Moreh road stretch from Moirangkhom to Canchipur, personnel from the Rapid Action Force and Manipur Police resorted to firing several rounds of tear gas shells.
The repeated incidents of alleged misconduct by RAF personnel have raised concerns about their behavior and discipline. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain the facts and take appropriate action against those responsible for the vandalism. The public also demands transparency and accountability from security forces, urging them to uphold the law and maintain professionalism in their operations.
