Corrupt Police Officer Suspended for Bribery Allegations in Assam's Majuli
MAJULI: Deepjyoti Kakati, the Officer-in-Charge of Balisapori Police Station in Assam's Majuli, has been suspended after being accused of demanding a bribe of Rs. 2,500 to release a detained youth, according to recent reports.

The suspension order was issued by Inspector General of Police Jitmol Doley, who personally visited the residence of the detained youth, identified as Dibyajyoti Nath, to investigate the allegations against Kakati.

During the investigation, IGP Doley recorded statements from Nath, his family, and other police officials at Balisapori Police Station.

It was revealed that Officer-in-Charge Deepjyoti Kakati had detained Dibyajyoti in connection with a case and then demanded a bribe of Rs. 2,500 for his release.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Kakati was promptly relieved of his duties and transferred to reserves. The decision was made by higher-ranking officials after evidence of bribery came to light.

According to sources, the corrupt police officer had requested Rs. 2,500 in exchange for releasing the detained youth, Dibyajyoti Nath. Subsequently, Nath was taken to Garmur Police Station, where he was questioned by senior officers from Majuli Police.

The suspension of Deepjyoti Kakati demonstrates the Assam Police's commitment to maintaining integrity within its ranks. Further investigations will be conducted to ensure justice is served in this case of alleged bribery and abuse of power.
