GUWAHATI: A new militant organization, known as the Boro Liberation Army (BLA), has recently surfaced in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam.
In a press statement addressed to the Union Government and the state government of Assam, the group expressed its demand for a separate state called "Boroland," announcing its formation in February 2023.
The core members leading this newly formed militant outfit include B Dwidengra as the President, B Rwngwra as the Vice President, B Ankhlai as the Army Chief, and B Bwkhangsa as the General Secretary.
The emergence of the BLA comes at a time when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his allies have been asserting that the third BTR Agreement marked a new era of peace in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
It is worth noting that the third BTR Accord was signed between the Assam government and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland on January 27, 2020.
Last year, another militant group called the United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) came into prominence. In a viral video on social media, a group of individuals dressed in military camouflage and wearing black face covers expressed their discontentment with the Boro Peace Treaty, signed by the Centre, Assam government, and former militant groups of the BTAD.
A youth, presumed to be the leader of the group, referred to as the United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB), voiced their dissatisfaction with the Peace Treaty and announced their return to the jungle.
Subsequently, all members of the newly formed United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) group returned home in September last year and surrendered to the Assam Police.
In February this year, the news of the establishment of the new militant outfit was circulated through an emergency number in various WhatsApp groups, under the leadership of B. Daidengra, the organization's president.
