Imphal: An explosion occurred on the evening of 21 June, damaging a bridge located near the adjoining area of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta along Tiddim Road. The blast, caused by an explosive device planted inside a parked Mahindra Scorpio four-wheeler vehicle, has raised concerns about the involvement of insurgents in the region. Three boys were injured in the incident and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have registered a Suo-Motu case under FIR No. 635(6)2023 at Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station, invoking multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 400/121/120-B/243/326/504/506/307/427, as well as sections 5/3 of the Explosive Substances Act and section 4 of the PDPP (Prevention of Damage to Public Property) Act 1984. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the vehicle entered from the Churachandpur side, but the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown.
