Manipur Schools to Resume Classes Soon After Postponement
New Date for School Reopening in Violence-Hit Manipur to be Announced
MANIPUR: The resumption of regular classes in Manipur's violence-affected schools has been postponed until July 1 or until further notice, as confirmed by official sources.

Initially, the government had announced that schools would reopen on June 21, as stated in a directive issued on June 16. However, the Director of Education(S), Manipur, L Nandakumar Singh, issued an order on Tuesday informing all Zonal Education Officers under the Department of Education-Schools, Manipur, to notify concerned individuals about the delay in reopening schools. They were also instructed to take necessary actions accordingly.

The decision to defer the reopening of schools stems from the ethnic clash that erupted in the state on May 3, 2023. In response, the state government declared a summer vacation until June 30, 2023, hoping that the situation would improve by then, allowing classes to resume. Unfortunately, the ongoing tensions have persisted, resulting in the postponement of school reopenings.

Despite the government's announcement on June 16, 2023, to reopen schools and resume normal classes, the order has now been delayed. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will provide further updates on when schools can safely resume operations.
