AMRITSAR: In an exciting Group B match of the Senior Women's National Football Championship, Manipur emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Maharashtra. The match, held at the Guru Nanak Dev University ground, witnessed an impressive display of skill and determination from both teams.
Dangmei Grace set the tone for Manipur as she opened the scoring with a well-executed goal in the 24th minute. Maharashtra, however, didn't take long to respond, with Arya More finding the back of the net and equalizing the scoreline in the 34th minute. The first half remained evenly contested as both teams fought hard to gain the upper hand.
As the second half kicked off, Manipur's Heigrujam Daya Devi showcased her prowess by netting two goals in quick succession. Her first goal came in the 47th minute, giving Manipur a much-needed lead. Not content with just one, Devi continued to shine and scored her second goal in the 54th minute, solidifying Manipur's grip on the match with a 3-1 advantage.
Despite their best efforts, Maharashtra couldn't find a way to stage a comeback. The Manipur defense stood firm, denying Maharashtra any further goals and securing a well-deserved victory. It was a commendable performance by both teams, showcasing their talent and determination on the football pitch.
In the other Group B matches, Bengal displayed their dominance by defeating Himachal Pradesh with a convincing 4-0 scoreline. Meanwhile, Haryana managed to secure a narrow 2-1 victory against Railways, showcasing the competitive nature of the tournament.
