In a commendable display of bravery and humanitarian efforts, the Indian Army has come to the aid of 300 stranded tourists in the North Sikkim district. The area had been severely affected by landslides and roadblocks, leaving the tourists stranded and in need of assistance.
The troops from the Striking Lion Division, Trishakti Corps, stepped in on Sunday to assist the stranded tourists at Chungthang in North Sikkim. They helped the tourists cross over a temporary bridge, enabling them to continue their journey towards the state capital, Gangtok.
During their rescue mission, the Indian Army provided the stranded tourists with essential necessities such as food, a place to rest, and medical assistance. Their efforts ensured the well-being and comfort of those affected by the unfortunate situation.
This was not the first rescue operation conducted by the Trishakti Corps. Just a day earlier, they collaborated with the Sikkim government to rescue 3,500 stranded tourists in the North Sikkim district. Their swift response and coordination proved instrumental in safely evacuating those in need.
In light of the challenging weather conditions and extensive road damage caused by landslides, the North Sikkim District Collector, Hem Kumar Chettri, announced that no fresh permits would be issued to tourists wishing to visit the picturesque district. The focus is currently on restoring the damaged roads and ensuring public safety. Once the road connectivity is reestablished, the authorities will consider allowing tourists to visit the area.
Chettri expressed his gratitude to the Border Roads Organization (BRO), General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Indian Army, and district officials for their successful efforts in evacuating the stranded tourists.
The swift and efficient response of the Indian Army in rescuing the stranded tourists highlights their dedication to serving and protecting the people. Their commitment to upholding the safety and well-being of individuals in times of crisis is truly commendable.
