England's Test XI Surprise: Player names against Ireland
Josh Tongue poised to make his Test debut as England announces lineup for Ireland clash
London: England's cricket team has revealed the playing XI for the highly anticipated four-day Test match against Ireland, scheduled to commence on June 1. In a surprising move, young fast bowler Josh Tongue has been given the opportunity to make his Test debut, joining the ranks of the national squad.

The decision to include Tongue was prompted by the unfortunate absence of pacers James Anderson and Ollie Robinson due to injuries. However, both Anderson and Robinson are expected to make a full recovery in time for the first Ashes Test. Head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed the duo's unavailability for the Ireland Test but expressed optimism about their return for the prestigious Ashes series.

"While Anderson and Robinson won't be fit for this Test against Ireland, I believe they should be ready for the first Ashes Test," McCullum revealed in an interview with Sky Sports. "We'll continue to monitor their progress closely. Nevertheless, we have a talented pool of players to choose from within our squad."

Tongue, 25 years old, brings with him a commendable record of 162 first-class wickets from 47 matches. His inclusion adds depth to England's pace attack, which already features Matthew Potts and the experienced Stuart Broad. McCullum also expressed confidence in the return of all-rounder Ben Stokes to bowling duties, although his current bowling fitness remains uncertain. Surprisingly, Chris Woakes, despite being named in the squad, did not make it to the final playing XI.

In terms of batting, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley are expected to open the innings for England, followed by Ollie Pope, who has recently been promoted to the vice-captaincy role. England's batting lineup further includes the reliable Joe Root, Stokes, Harry Brook, and Jonny Bairstow.

The spin department will be spearheaded by left-arm spinner Jack Leach, who will be the sole spinner in the team for the Ireland Test.
