CBI Takes Charge of Smt Junmani Rabha's Death Case
GOVERNMENT OF INDIA EXTENDS JURISDICTION OF DELHI SPECIAL POLICE ESTABLISHMENT TO ASSAM
New Delhi: The Central Government, in accordance with the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, has granted consent to extend the powers and jurisdiction of the members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) to the entire state of Assam. This move comes after the State Government of Assam provided their approval through Notification No. ECF No. 302621/20 dated May 20, 2023, issued by the Home & Political Department, Government of Assam.

The jurisdiction of the DSPE will cover the investigation of four specific cases in Assam. These cases include FIR No. 183/2023 registered at P.S. North Lakhimpur under sections 120-B, 395, 397, 342, and 387 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC); FIR No. 84/2023 registered at P.S. Jakhalabandha under sections 279, 427, and 304-A of the IPC; FIR No. 443/2023 registered at P.S. Nagaon under sections 489-A and 489-8 of the IPC; and FIR No. 87/2023 registered at P.S. Jakhalabandha under sections 120-B, 302, and 34 of the IPC. Furthermore, the extension of powers and jurisdiction also applies to any attempts, abetment, or conspiracies related to or connected with these offenses, as well as any other offenses committed during the same transaction or arising from the same facts.

The decision to grant jurisdiction to the DSPE in Assam is expected to strengthen the investigative capabilities of law enforcement agencies in the state. The members of the DSPE, commonly known as the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), are renowned for their expertise in handling complex and high-profile cases. With their expanded reach in Assam, they can now actively pursue investigations and take necessary action to ensure justice is served.

The extension of jurisdiction will facilitate a seamless coordination between the DSPE and local law enforcement agencies in Assam, enabling a more comprehensive and effective approach to tackling crime and maintaining law and order. It is expected to bolster the confidence of the public in the criminal justice system, assuring them that those involved in serious offenses will be brought to justice, regardless of their location within the state.

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, under the Department of Personnel and Training, issued the notification on June 14, 2023, with the consent of the State Government of Assam. The Ministry aims to uphold the principles of justice and uphold the rule of law throughout the country.

This significant development is expected to have a positive impact on the fight against crime in Assam and further enhance the cooperation between the DSPE and the state's law enforcement agencies. The Central Government and the State Government of Assam remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
