ASSAM: Bus services in the Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts have come to a halt since June 15, following a decision by the Tinsukia and Dibrugarh District Bus Owners Association. The association took this step in response to what they claim are excessive fines imposed by the Tinsukia Traffic Police. As a result, commuters and long-distance travelers are facing inconvenience and uncertainty.
In an official statement released to the media, the Bus Owners' Association expressed their dissatisfaction with the "unnecessary and coercive" fines imposed on buses by the traffic police. They emphasized the difficulties faced by bus employees who not only have to deal with frequent fines but also struggle to repay their monthly bus loans.
The main demand put forth by the association is the implementation of consistent regulations for picking up passengers from the Assam State Transport Corporation station in Tinsukia. They believe that these regulations should be extended to the entire ATM road. According to reports, until the Tinsukia District Administration addresses this concern and establishes a unified policy, the indefinite suspension of bus services will continue, as stated by the bus association members.
