GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made an important announcement aimed at improving the education system in the state. Under the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), matriculation or matriculation examination will be abolished for class 10 students. The decision is aimed at facilitating a smooth transition for students from class 10 to higher education.Under the new guidelines, there will be no separate matriculation examination in Assam. Instead, schools will be responsible for conducting assessment for Class 10 students, including in-class unit tests. This change allows students to directly move to Class 11 and 12 after completing Class 10 exams, thereby eliminating the need for separate board exams.
Chief Minister Sarma explained, "From now on, there will be no matriculation or matriculation examination. The focus will be on pass or fail system within the school itself. This decision has been taken to ensure that students start their studies for class 11 Can do." And 12th immediately after completing class 10th."
To support this educational reform, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) will merge into a single organization. The purpose of this merger is to streamline administrative procedures and create an integrated approach to secondary and higher secondary education in the state.
The cancellation of matriculation examination in Assam is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, which seeks to transform the existing education system in India, including both school and higher education. This is expected to bring about a positive change and improve the learning experience of the students.
In the revised system, students will appear for board exams in class 12 instead of class 10. While the pass and fail system will continue to be applicable for class 10th, students will not be required to take fresh admissions for class 11th. This will be a seamless and continuous process ensuring a smooth educational journey for the students.
Apart from this reform, the Assam government is also planning to merge the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and Secondary Education Board Assam (SEBA) into a single entity. As clarified by the Chief Minister, there will be no loss of jobs of the employees of these organizations due to this merger.
Recently, the Assam Higher Secondary Council (AHSEC) released the Assam HS Class 12 Result 2023. Students who appeared for the Assam Higher Secondary Examination 2023 can check their results on the official website of the board at ahsec.assam.gov.in. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated all the successful candidates and extended his best wishes. He encouraged those who did not perform well to keep working hard, stressing that there is always an opportunity for a fresh start.
