GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed plans for the construction of an "underwater tunnel" in the mighty Brahmaputra River, connecting the regions of Gohpur and Numaligarh. The Chief Minister shared this significant development during a public gathering in Biswanath Chariali, capturing the attention and imagination of the attendees.
The proposed project, which carries substantial financial implications, marks a major milestone in the state's infrastructure development. Dr Sarma disclosed that the initial tender for a "Detailed Project Report" (DPR) will be launched on July 4, 2023. The DPR will delve into crucial aspects such as land requirements, cost estimation, and other vital considerations essential for the successful implementation of the underwater tunnel.
Expressing his optimism, the Chief Minister shared his hope of commencing the construction of the tunnel during his tenure, emphasizing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already given his approval for the project.
