Two day conclave for NEP 2020

Guwahati, Assam: In a significant move, Assam has emerged as a trailblazer among Indian states by becoming one of the first to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in its state universities and colleges. The honorable Governor, Shri Gulab Kataria, and the Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, jointly inaugurated a conclave on the Implementation of NEP organized by the Assam Raj Bhavan, the Higher Education Department of Assam, and the General Administration Department (GAD) today at the Assam Administrative Staff College (AASC) in Guwahati.
The conclave, spanning two days, aims to foster collaboration among all universities in the state and feature a diverse panel of experts from across India. This gathering of minds seeks to explore effective strategies and best practices for the successful implementation of NEP in Assam.

Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his vision for Assam's educational landscape, stating, "I aspire for Assam to become more than just an educational hub for the North East. I envision our state to emerge as a distinguished center of education for Eastern India and the entire nation." Sarma emphasized the need for at least 50% of Assam's universities to secure positions within the top 100 ranks nationally, demonstrating the state's commitment to excellence in education.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of uniformity in the education system. "We must strive for parity among all universities in terms of curriculum, academic calendars, and other crucial aspects. This will ensure that students and parents have confidence in the quality and consistency of education across institutions," Sarma asserted. He also called upon universities to consider enrolling undergraduate students directly on their campuses, promoting a holistic educational experience.

In a plea to academicians, the Chief Minister requested that they simplify the language used to explain the framework of NEP, ensuring that students do not feel overwhelmed by the new policies. This approach aims to facilitate a smooth transition and understanding of the reforms among students, fostering an environment conducive to their growth and development.

The conclave marks an important milestone for Assam, signifying its commitment to embracing progressive reforms in the education sector. By spearheading the implementation of NEP 2020, the state is poised to transform its universities and colleges into beacons of excellence, attracting students and scholars from across the nation.

With a clear vision and concerted efforts, Assam's aspiration to become a leading center of education in Eastern India and the entire nation seems within reach.
