In a recent development, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, G.P. Singh, took to Twitter to address a reported incident involving the alleged misconduct of a police officer at Ghograpar Police Station in Nalbari. According to the complaint filed by a 17-year-old girl on June 26, 2023, she was accompanied by a male individual to Ghograpar Police Station on June 21, 2023. Additionally, the officer reportedly took inappropriate photographs and made obscene gestures towards the complainant.
Taking cognizance of the matter, a case has been registered at Nalbari Police Station under sections 354(B) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as sections 12 and 14(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case has been transferred to a Woman Additional Superintendent of Police in Nalbari for further investigation.
In response to the incident, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Central Western Range (CWR) has been tasked with conducting an on-site visit to Ghograpar Police Station and providing a firsthand report on the situation. This step highlights the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the matter.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that Ghograpar Police Station is equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, which may have captured evidence pertaining to the alleged incident.
