Assam Government to Introduce Bills for New Universities in College Upgrades
Government of Assam to Introduce Bills Establishing New Universities in Various Colleges
Assam: The Government of Assam, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is set to fulfill its promise of establishing new universities in several colleges across the state. In the upcoming August assembly session, the government plans to introduce bills to initiate the transformation of Sibsagar College, Kokrajhar Government College, Bongaigaon College, J.B College-Jorhat, North Lakhimpur College, Nagaon College, and Gurucharan College into full-fledged universities.

The proposed bills aim to enhance the educational landscape of Assam by providing greater access to higher education opportunities for students in these regions. The conversion of these esteemed colleges into universities will enable them to offer a wider range of courses and programs, facilitating the holistic development of students and preparing them for the challenges of the modern world.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming legislative session, stating, "Education is the cornerstone of progress, and we are committed to providing quality educational institutions to the youth of Assam. These bills signify our determination to empower students by creating world-class universities in various regions, ensuring that they have access to a diverse range of academic disciplines."

While the government remains dedicated to the development of higher education in the state, the upgrading of Handique College is expected to face some delays. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted that the college currently lacks adequate land to facilitate its transformation into a university. However, he assured the public that efforts are underway to identify suitable land for Handique College to proceed with its upgrading process.

"Handique College holds immense historical and educational significance, and we are committed to its transformation. We understand the challenges it faces regarding land availability, but rest assured, we are actively searching for suitable land options. Once this hurdle is overcome, Handique College will be on its way to becoming a thriving university," affirmed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The proposed bills and the government's dedication to expanding higher education opportunities have been met with widespread appreciation from educators, students, and the general public alike. The establishment of new universities is seen as a significant step towards fostering academic excellence, research, and innovation within Assam.

As the August assembly session approaches, all eyes will be on the government to witness the successful introduction and passage of these bills. If approved, these universities will not only bring enhanced educational opportunities but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the regions they serve.
