Assam faces severe flood and earthquake challenges
GUWAHATI: Thousands of people in Assam are struggling with the effects of floods that have submerged several districts in the state. The floods have worsened in the last few days, affecting more than 30,000 people in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, and Dibrugarh districts. The authorities have deployed the NDRF and SDRF teams to rescue the marooned people in Lakhimpur district.
As if the floods were not enough, the state also experienced a moderate earthquake on Friday morning. The quake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, occurred at 10.16 a.m., with its epicentre in Bangladesh's Sylhet region, 70 km deep. The quake was felt in some parts of Assam, but no damage or casualties were reported.
