Guwahati: In light of the ongoing tense situation in Manipur, the Chief Minister of Assam is scheduled to meet his Manipur counterpart, N Biren Singh, and other officials today, according to sources. The Supreme Court has declined an urgent listing of a plea regarding the suspension of internet services in Manipur since May 3, citing that the matter is already being addressed by the High Court.A vacation bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Rajesh Bindal stated, "Let it come before the regular bench. The High Court is already handling the matter." The ban on internet services has been in effect since May 3.
The Supreme Court has expressed concerns over the loss of lives and property during the violence in Manipur and emphasized the need to take adequate measures to restore normalcy. The High Court had previously directed the State to consider including the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes list on March 27.
