Guwahati, Assam: The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is currently grappling with a state of upheaval following the dismissal of 771 illegally hired workers from their positions. In response to this violation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a stern warning that those responsible for these unlawful appointments will face severe consequences.
Addressing the media in Guwahati, Chief Minister Sarma declared, "Whether the appointments were orchestrated by a minister or an officer, we will nullify any illegal hiring. This situation has inflicted grave injustice upon deserving candidates. Moreover, stringent action will be taken against any officers found to have flouted the law by appointing these candidates."
Allegations have emerged that during the tenures of Anand Prakash Tiwari and Khagendra Nath Chetia as managing directors, a staggering 2,274 individuals were recruited without adhering to proper procedures.
A notification issued on the matter reads, "The entire recruitment of 2,274 personnel took place without following due process, disregarding the system of reservation and without conducting any interviews. These allegations warrant investigation, and if substantiated, a show-cause notice will be issued to the former MD of ASTC for violating government norms, potentially leading to departmental proceedings."
In a bid to rectify the situation, the chief minister announced that all qualified applicants who were previously appointed illegally within ASTC will have an opportunity to reapply for the same positions when the Assam state government announces recruitment notifications for approximately 22,776 openings across various ministries in July. This gesture aims to provide fair and equal opportunities to deserving candidates while upholding the principles of transparency and accountability.
The ASTC, under the guidance of the chief minister, is determined to restore integrity and adherence to the law within the organization.
