In the viral video, Havildar Prabhakaran, visibly distressed, pleads for justice as he recounts the horrific incident involving his wife. However, according to an India Today report, the Tamil Nadu police have dismissed his claims as exaggerated.
Havildar Prabhakaran, who hails from Padavedu village in Tamil Nadu and is currently stationed in Kashmir, narrated the incident, stating, "My wife owns a shop on a leased property. She was assaulted by a mob of 120 men who also threw out the shop's belongings. I have submitted a complaint to the Superintendent of Police, who has assured me of action. I appeal to the Director General of Police for help. My family has been threatened and attacked with knives. They stripped and brutally beat my wife."

However, the Tiruvannamalai District Police released a statement after conducting a preliminary investigation, asserting that the incident had been blown out of proportion. According to their findings, a man named Kumar had leased a shop on Renugambal temple land to Selvamurthy, Prabhakaran's father-in-law, for a sum of Rs 9.5 lakh for a five-year period. Following Kumar's demise, his son Ramu desired to reclaim the shop. An agreement was reached on February 10 of this year, where Ramu agreed to return the money. However, Selvamurthy allegedly denied receiving the payment and refused to vacate the shop.
On June 10, Ramu went to the shop to deliver the money to Selvamurthy's sons, Jeeva and Udhaya. It was during this encounter that Ramu was reportedly assaulted, sustaining a head injury from a knife allegedly wielded by Jeeva.

The Tamil Nadu police claim that the people present at the scene of the scuffle sided with Ramu, resulting in the removal of items from the shop. While Prabhakaran's wife and mother-in-law were inside the shop, the police assert that the crowd did not harm them. Disputing Prabhakaran's assertion of severe injuries sustained by his wife, the police state that Keerthi, the wife, voluntarily admitted herself to the hospital later in the evening. An investigation is now underway based on the complaints lodged by both parties.
The incident has drawn condemnation from various quarters. N Thiagarajan, Senior Vice President of the All India Ex-Servicemen Council Tamil Nadu, has strongly condemned the assault and demanded swift action. K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP State President, expressed his support for the victim and assured her of justice. He tweeted, "I had a telephonic conversation with the Havildar, who is bravely serving our country in Kashmir, and his wife, based out of Tiruvannamalai. I am truly devastated to hear her story, and I feel ashamed that this happened to her in our Tamil land! Our party members are rushing to attend to her as she is admitted to a hospital in Vellore. BJP Tamil Nadu stands in solidarity with her and our Havildar's family in their pursuit of justice."
