State DGP Recommends CBI Probe into Death of SI Junmoni Rabha, Honoring Public Sentiment for Neutral Investigation
GUWAHATI: State DGP Recommends CBI Probe into SI Junmoni Rabha's Death
In response to public sentiment and in pursuit of a neutral investigation, State Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has recommended that the State Government hand over the investigation into the death of SI Junmoni Rabha to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Speaking to the media, DGP Singh explained his decision, stating, "After careful consideration, I have recommended to the State Government that the investigation into the death of SI Junmoni Rabha be entrusted to the CBI on two grounds: the prevailing public sentiment and the significance of a neutral agency investigating a case involving loss of life, which police officials deem appropriate."

The DGP emphasized that his recommendation to involve the CBI does not reflect any doubt regarding the professional capabilities of the Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He expressed his high regard for the investigative capabilities of the State CID.

Additionally, the DGP recommended that all four cases related to SI Junmoni Rabha, directly or indirectly, be handed over to the CBI. These cases include the Nagaon Police Station case (443/23), registered on May 5, 2023, where she served as the investigating officer; the North Lakhimpur Police Station case (183/23), registered on May 15, 2023, where she was named as an accused; as well as two cases from Jakhalabanda Police Station, registered on May 16 and May 19, 2023, respectively, following her demise.
