JAPAN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reassured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, that India is fully committed to resolving the ongoing Ukraine crisis. Modi expressed his personal commitment to finding a solution and emphasized that the conflict is not just a political or economic issue but also an issue of humanity and human values.

The Prime Minister's Office tweeted about the meeting, stating that PM Modi held talks with President Zelensky and conveyed India's support for dialogue and diplomacy in finding a way forward. Modi also mentioned that India will continue providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine. President Zelensky thanked PM Modi for the support and invited India to join Ukraine's "peace formula" initiative.
During the meeting, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present, as seen in the shared photos. Both leaders were accompanied by high-ranking officials from their respective delegations.

Prior to the face-to-face meeting, PM Modi spoke with President Zelensky twice over the phone to assess the situation in Ukraine. During a phone call with Russian President Putin, India expressed a stance of strategic ambivalence on the Ukraine crisis, reflecting a pragmatic approach and emphasizing India's commitment to territorial integrity, sovereignty, and relationships with neighboring nations.
At the G7 summit, PM Modi also held bilateral talks with several other leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. He briefly met with US President Joe Biden and will meet Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese during the Quad Leadership Summit.
