Northeast India is gearing up to welcome its inaugural Vande Bharat Express train, which will run between New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri and Guwahati, Assam. Operating under the train numbers Up-22227 and Down-22228, this new high-speed train is scheduled to operate six days a week, covering a distance of approximately 410 kilometers in a mere six hours. The introduction of this train is expected to significantly reduce travel time between New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati, making it the fastest train in the region.
This announcement comes on the heels of the recent launch of Odisha's first Vande Bharat Express, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a video conference. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, while discussing the initiative, shared that PM Modi has set a target to introduce Vande Bharat Express trains in nearly all states by June of this year.
