In a major development, a prominent local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has been arrested on charges of cheating individuals by falsely promising them jobs within various state government departments. The Assam police confirmed the arrest of Moon Ingtipi, who held the position of secretary in the BJP's kisan morcha in Karbi Anglong district. Following her arrest, party leaders promptly announced her dismissal from the organization.
The police investigation uncovered substantial evidence against Moon Ingtipi, leading to her arrest. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Nayan Barman stated, "Our team is currently investigating the matter, and we have gathered enough evidence to proceed with legal action. The arrested individual will be presented before the court, and we will record her statement as part of the ongoing investigation."
Moon Ingtipi allegedly deceived her victims by claiming close associations with various influential BJP leaders, including Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Numerous individuals who fell victim to Moon Ingtipi's fraudulent schemes reported that she failed to fulfill her promises of securing them job appointments and providing official appointment letters. Preliminary estimates suggest that her deceitful activities may have defrauded people of more than ₹9 crore over the past few years.
While the state BJP has refrained from making any official statements regarding the charges leveled against Moon Ingtipi, her arrest has raised concerns within the party. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the integrity and accountability of political leaders, as well as the need for stringent measures against those involved in fraudulent activities that harm the public's trust.
