The semi-high speed train, which is the first in Assam and the third in Bengal, will cover a distance of 411 km in a remarkable time of five hours and thirty minutes. With operations scheduled for six days a week, excluding Tuesdays, this new service is set to revolutionize connectivity between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri.
Railway Minister Ashiwini Vaishnaw, ahead of the grand launch, emphasized the government's focus on the 'Act East' policy. He expressed his delight at PM Modi inaugurating the Northeast's first Vande Bharat Express, highlighting the shift from the previous 'Look East' approach to a more proactive 'Act East' stance.
The Vande Bharat Express boasts comfortable seating arrangements, with executive chair cars accommodating 52 passengers each, while normal chair cars can accommodate 78 passengers each. The driving trailer coaches offer seating for 44 passengers each, ensuring a pleasant journey for commuters.
The Guwahati railway station, serving as a vital transportation hub in the region, witnessed the auspicious commencement of this new and efficient rail service, bringing a significant boost to the connectivity and development of the Northeastern states. This development aligns with the government's vision of fostering regional integration and promoting economic growth in the Northeast region.
