Meghalaya: The Committee on Roster Reservation has called upon the state government of Meghalaya to commence discussions on the job reservation policy without delay. The committee, led by Chairperson and Minister in-charge Law Ampareen Lyngdoh, has decided to expand the terms of reference beyond the roster system and engage in thorough deliberations on the job reservation policy.
During the meeting on May 29, there was unanimous agreement on the proposed roster, and the committee has formulated specific recommendations to be forwarded to the government of Meghalaya for consideration. However, the Voice of People's Party (VPP) is yet to participate in the discussions.
According to Lyngdoh, for a consensus to be reached on the roster system, it is imperative that all political parties contribute to the deliberations on the issue. "Therefore, we are going to request the government of Meghalaya to include a discussion on the job reservation policy at the earliest, so that we may provide an opportunity for the VPP to present its point of view to the committee," stated Lyngdoh. She further emphasized the need for all political parties to engage in the exercise, as it would be biased if only one political party was given the opportunity.
Furthermore, Lyngdoh highlighted that once the VPP is afforded a fair opportunity to present its perspectives, the committee will make informed decisions on all the issues brought before it. The committee plans to reconvene on May 31, providing all political parties a chance to offer suggestions and comments, thereby moving the agenda forward.
"We want the people of the state to feel that our committee is inclusive in nature, and we value all points of view before making any final decisions on this matter," Lyngdoh expressed. She extended an invitation to the VPP to attend the upcoming meeting, pending the government of Meghalaya's approval to discuss the job reservation policy. Lyngdoh stressed the importance of including the VPP, acknowledging that every political thought in the state holds significance. The minutes of the meeting will be expeditiously sent to the chief minister for consideration.
As the committee strives for an inclusive approach, it aims to foster a conducive environment for open dialogue, ensuring that all stakeholders have the opportunity to be heard and contribute to the decision-making process.
